I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I imagined a picture of Frank in my head, and slowly the tingling sensation of a formation engulfed me. It was a little less prominent a feeling, and I could almost feel the minute changes my body was making. It wasn’t very long until the feeling was gone though.
“What the hell?” Frank asked, and I opened my eyes. He looked severely confused, as did everyone else.
I grinned. “Now,” I stopped. My voice was just like Frank’s too. “Whoa, that’s weird.” I was still surprised by my own voice. “Anyway, if I were to look like one of those guys we ran into I could safely get information from them.”
“How would you know what to say so they wouldn’t expect anything?” Ray inquired. A good question, and I already had an answer.
“That’s where you and Gee come in. You would read their minds, and then tell Gee what he should have me say or do.”
Gerard looked almost impressed that I had formulated this plan on my own. “You’re right. That might just be crazy enough to work.”
“I figured we should try something like that with just us first. Just to make sure that it would work.” I explained.
Frank was still looking at me kind of oddly, almost inspecting my looks to see if I really was just like him. I laughed.
“I bet you can’t run as fast as me.” He finally said, matter of factly.
“Not in this form.” I told him. It took him a moment, but he did remember that I tied him in a race as a cheetah. He scowled at me, and I laughed at him again.
He was just asking for trouble. Without much time to think about what I could do though, I settled for something simpler. I was cut off though. “What is going on?” We all turned around to see that Adrian was standing in the doorway that led from the kitchen to the back yard. She looked completely confused.
I turned back to Frank, and gave him a knowing look. He returned it.
“Not much.” I answered her, as she walked up, and joined our little circle.
“Yeah, things are pretty average.” Frank added.
“Frank?” She asked, confused.
“Yes.” Me and Frank both said it at exactly the same time. This was going to be too funny.
“There’s two of you. What the hell? Which of you is the real Frank?”
“Me.” Again we both answered in unison.
I gave him an angry look. “No. It’s me. He’s lying.”
“No. He’s the liar. Who are you going to trust?” Frank asked her.
“I am so confused. I’m going to ask a question that only the real Frank would know.”
“Okay.”
“Go on.”
I quickly looked towards Gerard, and Ray telling them to give me the correct answer to the question.
“What’s Frank’s favorite animal?” She asked.
I didn’t even need help to get this one right. “Dogs.” I said right along with Frank. It was getting hard not to laugh, but I managed to contain myself.
“Damn it.” She remarked.
By now Gerard, Ray, and Mikey were all laughing uncontrollably. I was amazed Frank and I still had on straight faces.
“Uh, What did Frank have for breakfast this morning?” Adrian pressed on.
With Gee and Ray too busy laughing, I was stumped.
“Fuck, you got me.” I formed back to myself, to show Adrian that there was still only was one Frank.
“I honestly didn’t know the answer either.” Frank said.
“You only had coffee.” Adrian told us all.
“How do you know that?”
“Um,”
“She’s still a stalker fan.” Ray answered for her, whilst ruffling her hair a little.
“We still like you though.” Mikey assured her.
“So, have you guys come up with a plan or something?” She changed the subject.
“Yeah, we’ve got it all worked out. I’m go-” Ray cut me off.
“Right now you don’t have anything to worry about. It’s just me, Gee, and Sam. We were just about to start practicing before you came out.” He explained. I was just going to tell her the exact plan. There must be some reason Ray has for not wanting Adrian to know.
“Oh, okay. I had an idea of my own though. What if, Gerard, you told someone to die what would happen?” She asked. Something in her eye said she was still more curious about what I was going to say before Ray stopped me.
Gee seemed to ponder the question for just a moment. “No idea. I could...”
“No.” I cut him off. “Sister said we need to be careful. You’re not even going to try it.” I really did think he wouldn’t try anything so stupid after this mornings fiasco.
“Couldn’t he at least try it on a squirrel or something?” She persisted.
“Maybe another time.” Gerard assured her. I still wasn’t too keen on the idea.
“We really should be practicing right now.” Ray told us all. Truthfully I didn’t mind, I was excited to try this idea of mine.
“Alright. I’m going to go for a walk.” Adrian wandered off towards the garden.
I waited until she was out sight before asking a question. “Why did you cut me off when I was about to explain the plan to her?” I asked Ray.
“She would have freaked out if you had told her.” He responded.
“Okay.” I suppose that made sense. “So, Mikey or Frank, which one of you am I going to try and get to believe that I’m someone I’m not?” I hope that didn’t confuse them too much.
“I want to try.” Frank volunteered first.
“Great. Everyone else inside so we can work this out some more.”
All of us, but Frank, walked into the kitchen through the back door. We didn’t say a word, until we had the door closed behind us.
